Clean Bus for All of Us Initiative — Chicago
The Carbon League assists a growing task force of community members, environmental advocates, and other stakeholders collaborating to promote equitable electrification of Chicago’s public transit
Goals
Raise awareness and funds for a transition to cleaner, more sustainable public transportation in the Chicago area, and specifically cleaner buses
Reduce pollution in heavily impacted neighborhoods and thus foster equity in public health outcomes
Address climate change and promote environmental health while prioritizing environmental justice
Next Steps
Create a data-driven tool that compiles CTA, ComEd, city, county and federal data to help identify Chicago-area communities most in need of the economic, environmental and public health benefits that public transit electrification would provide
Grow as a cross-functional coalition to include Chicago-area legislators, aldermen and businesses, and particularly stakeholders and leaders from the communities of focus provided by the data tool
Attain funding streams for a pilot program establishing electric public transit infrastructure along bus routes in corridors of focus
